This week I happened upon some fun clearance items at my local michaels and decided to try something new. I have been admiring Heidi Swapp's (HS) style and products for many years now but had yet to pull the trigger so when I saw some stencils and colour spritzers on special I knew I had to take the challenge.
To make this birthday themed card, I started out with my usual base which I diecut with the SSS Stiched dies. Then, I taped my base down to my craft mat and taped my HS stencil diagonally across my base. Once I was all taped and masked and secure, I took to applying my turquoise color spritz by spritzing across the card. When I was happy with my turquoise coverage, I did the same method with the gold spritz. This did make my base quite wet so once done, I removed the stencil but left my base taped down to dry.
Once dry, it was time to assemble my sentiment. For the "happy" part of my card I used the same technique from my Manly Thanks card, but instead of layering this out with black die cuts, I've chosen white to give the illusion that my diecut is floating on the page. I have a bunch of thin twine kicking around from an old project that I'm always wanting to use so when I started laying it out I was ecstatic to find that it added just the right grounding to my diecut without overpowering my background.
And last but not least, I added my "birthday" text with a Studio Calico stamp and some gradient turquoise to blue ink.
And there you have it! New to me products and techniques made this a very fun card to create. Since this was a "take it as it comes" creative process, I'll be entering this card into the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Anything Goes!
With Love,
