Using What You Have on Hand

Hi again!

As you now know, I am a blog peruser.  Over the last couple of weeks I have come across multiple mentions of this NBUS. What does it mean? Never-Before-Used-Schtuff!  My hunt for the definition of this new phrase took me to Darnell Knauss's blog.  On it she encourages crafters to delve deep into their craft stash and use items they've picked up but never used. I thought this was such a great idea that I just had to try it out and enter the current NBUS challenge!

 NBUS Challenge #3

I am also entering this card into the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - It's A Guy Thing

Here it is!

NBUS supplies:

  • Tim Holtz Distress Markers: tumbled glass and crushed olive
  • Spellbinders Shapeabilities: Bonsai Tree
  • Just Rite Clear Extra Grand Sentiments: With Sympathy
  • Dauber Duos Ink: Turquoise
  • Recollections Cardstock Paper: Turquoise

This card also includes a technique I've never tried before - watercoloring with distress markers! It was soo easy and I just love the sky effect I was able to achieve although the lighting in this photo doesn't do it justice.  Again, the pics are a work in progress.

What items do you have in the depths of your craft stash that you haven't used yet?  Before you head out for yet another haul (but they're soo fun!!) take a shop around at home and see what NBUS you have to use.  Often finding those treasures at the back of a drawer or bottom of a basket are just as inspiring as that shiny new product at the store.

With love,

  2. Thank you for finding me, Lola, and entering your fantastic sympathy card in my NBUS Challenge #3! I hope you also followed me on my side bar so I can introduce you to my other friends. I see you don't have a follow button, so I subscribed to your blog. Your card is a wonderful serene scene with that sweet bonsai tree. And good job using the NBUS and also using a NBUS technique of painting with your DI! I'm sure you will be having lots more fun doing that in the future! I hope to see you again soon!! Hugs, Darnell
